Feature Story:

Calling all 9th Grade Students! Want to paddle for free?

The Professional Paddlesport Association invites you and your fellow 9th grade classmates for a day out on the water. By canoe or by kayak, the choice is yours. Requirements are simple–you just need to be 14 or 15 years and currently living and attending school in the U.S. How simple is that? Never canoed or kayaked before?  Not a problem - experienced outfitters will teach you the ropes, get a paddle in your hand and have you out on a river in no time!

About the 9th Grade Paddle Pass

9th Grade students all over the United States can go paddling for free this season thanks to a new program announced by the Professional Paddlesports Association (PPA). The new 9th Grade Paddle Pass allows 9th graders to register and receive a passport that will get them up to ten free paddling trips with participating outfitters all over the United States.

How to Sign Up:

Just go to http://www.paddlepass.com/registration.htm and fill out the online registration form, complete it then have a teacher or administrator verify the information, and return it to the PPA. The PPA will provide your 9th grader with a passport for a free paddling trip! Take the passport to a participating outfitter, and the student will be qualified to paddle for free up to ten times – either at the same location or another. The pass will enable them access to a canoe/kayak rental as well as the necessary gear for the activity (portable floatation device, paddles, safety gear, etc.)

Why Paddle?

Given the increasingly sedentary habits of today’s families, the Paddle Pass provides a unique opportunity for teens to get out and enjoy the outdoors with their families at a minimal cost. The program is part of an effort to help kids increase their physical activity, and reconnect with nature – paddling is an easy activity to start at any age, encourages a healthy lifestyle, and paddlers develop a connection with the ecosystem at the same time.

The Professional Paddlesports Association is partnering with Nova Craft Canoe from Canada to promote fun outdoor activities for youth. The 9th Grade Paddle Pass is a nonprofit initiative that promotes and encourages youth participation to engage in outdoor activities. For more information about the Paddle Pass and to download the registration form, go to www.paddlepass.com.
