mn_miniicon.gifGrand Marais/Gunflint Trail

Nestled on the shores of Lake Superior, Grand Marais is a quaint harbor village. The Sawtooth Mountains provide an awesome backdrop and invite visitors to journey deep into the BWCAW. Departing from Grand Marais, the Gunflint Trail leads to many resorts and hiking trails, but the premier attractions for the canoeist are the 19 BWCAW entry points and the abundance of outfitters. Further north on Highway 61 is the Arrowhead Trail, which leads to 3 entry points at the very eastern tip of the BWCAW. Although Grand Marais itself has fewer tourist resources than Ely, the area still has plenty of services to help you plan your canoe trip, and is an especially popular destination because of the majestic hillsides and long glacier-cut lakes particular to the eastern BWCAW.
