Feature Stories

Savant Lake

Savant Lake, 60 miles (100 km.) north of Ignace, is a true part of Canada’s frontier, where the roads end and the forest stretches into taiga (rocky terrain) ending at the Arctic Ocean. It is serviced by trains that cross through Wabakimi Provincial Park, running between Armstrong and Sioux Lookout, and ultimately headed all the way to Toronto and Winnipeg. Additionally, several air services can take you from Savant Lake straight into the wilderness. Like other small Ontario towns, you can find gas, food, and accommodations in or near Savant Lake, but extensive outfitting is best done ahead of time.
