Feature Stories

Thunder Bay

With a population of over 100,000, Thunder Bay is a full-fledged city on the northwest shores of Lake Superior.  50 miles (80 km) north of La Verendrye and 90 miles (150 km) east of Quetico, Thunder Bay is not adjacent to any of the parks, but its size and choice of services is unmatched in the region.  It has a few outfitters and an abundance of accommodations, tourist attractions, and staples like groceries and gas. If you’re headed to Wabakimi Provincial Park or any of western Ontario’s Rivers and Streams it is the last metropolitan area before the small towns of the North Country.
