Sleeping Pads, Pillows, and Liners
To sleep well you need to be comforable. Sleeping pads provide extra cushioning, but also extra warmth by preventing you from losing body heat to the ground. Pads made of closed cell foam are inexpensive, warm, and durable, but can be bulky to pack and don't provide a lot of cushioning. Inflating pads combine comfort with insulation and compress easily for packing, though they are more expensive than foam and require proper care to avoid punctures and leaks. In addition to pads, some folks find compressible pillows essential, and liners can add extra insulation or stand on their own as a super-lightweight summer bag.
