View Full Version : Linear Thread Display Mode Inverted: Why?

I use several vB forums and they all use linear thread display mode by default. That seems the most effecient and comfortable mode of thread viewing. But they all start with the #1 post at the top of the page.
Canoeing.com's linear thread mode is inverted so it displays the #1 post at the very bottom of the page. So you scroll all the way down, read the first post while scrolling down some more, scroll up to the second post, scroll down to read it, scroll up to the third post, scroll down to read it... repeat.
Is there a reason Canoeing.com staff chose this backward mode of thread viewing, or could it be changed to make thread viewing more practical for the users?

I agreed with you that posting the newest thread on top would be more desirable. I'll bring it up at our staff meeting this week. Hopefully, it will be something that can be changed with the existing software and with minimal cost and time delay. Thanks for your concern and suggestion.

Are you sure you didn't just change your display option in your User CP? Go to User CP, Edit Options, scroll down to thread display options, and you get four choices for how you want your posts displayed...

By following Dan's lead, everyone should be able to have it to their personal preference. You're the 'Ultimate Guide' on this one, thanks Dan!

Well there's no hand slapping a forehead smiley so I'll have to use this one! :o Yes I am embarrassed. Not because I didn't check my user CP, but because I did several times! I had to really stare at the thread option choices hard before I noticed the fourth choice which was shaded over.
And Dan is right. If that's the forum default then I probably buggered it up myself!
So thank you Dan, you 'da man! And thank you Micmac for your rapid response and concerned effort to provide a good environment for the forum users. You and all the staff and moderators are doing a great job! Thanks for giving us such a great forum! :)

Taken out of context and with different emphasis...that's pretty funny.
Yep, I 'preciate the advise myself, Dan. I'm trying out a few different ways to follow these threads.

Glad to have been of some use... I've frequented vBulettin-powered forums on several sites for many years, but having just taken over adminstration of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association's forums in August, I'm still learning the ins and outs of the software...
Cheers,
Dan
